CGAC. Santiago de Compostela
20/07 – 07/10
His exhibition at the CGAC brings together some of his most recent series, Hidden Architecture, Bangkok and Spontaneous Architecture, the latter the result of a calibrated use of his own archive and systematic observations on buildings without authors or popular buildings. The exhibition also includes a reinterpretation of the space conceived by the Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza Vieira through photographs of projections that form part of his series Desvelar, desplazar.
This project, centred on the idea of architecture, is part of the annual programme of mid-career review of artists from Galicia that the CGAC has been carrying out since 2016.
Maison Européenne of Photographie
30/05 - 29/07
The exhibition features a selection of Nicolás Combarro’s work, as well as a work created especially for the occasion at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie.
The ‘Spontaneous Architecture’ series is also on show. This is a series of photographs, forming a polyptych of small formats, depicting popular contemporary architecture, on which the artist has intervened, again using different techniques (collage, paint, etc.), to reveal the hidden abstract forms. Neglected and despised architecture, often in a state of disrepair, is brought back to life through the artist’s fresh eye.
Nicolàs Combarro is in residence at the Cité internationale des arts.
